We joined the Nando's team back in 2012 to create and plan their nationwide in-restaurant Christmas campaign. The main focus was to convey the irreverent, fun personality of the brand and offer some festive cheer to their loyal customers and staff (or Nandocas as they’re known within the business). The rest was left up to us.
It was evident from our first visit to Nando’s that their core audience was hooked on digital. Phones were at the centre of the dining action and conversation, and Nando’s already had millions of followers across their social media channels. So rather than focusing on a print-based idea, which was the default setting for the brand’s restaurant activity, we created a digitally centred campaign with the Crackalaka Boom app at the heart of the action.
The app allows users to physically pull a digital cracker – using two phones as each half – to unlock a range of traditional games, photobooth fancy dress and joke features.

Large-scale window decals and promotional materials were also created to introduce the app to customers and give each restaurant a dose of Christmas spirit.
